Actias luna, relative to Actias truncatipennis, is generally regarded as a smaller moth with shorter tails and a distribution throughout the eastern half of southern Canada and the eastern half of the United States.

Actias truncatipennis flies in Mexico.

Also note the generally thicker "attachment" running from the costa to the the eyespot in Actias truncatipennis.
