Catocala blandula, Catocala crataegi and Catocala mira are sometimes difficult to distinguish.

C. blandula is perhaps best distinguished from C. mira in that blandula has a dark brown forewing basal area while mira has a much lighter basal area.

In crataegi the basal are is black, the median area has a greenish tint and the hindwing black outer margin is broken near the anal angle.
