Colleen writes, August 2010, "My father found a huge Achemon Sphinx caterpillar on a utility pole at his job last month near a Virginia Creeper vine in Willingboro, NJ. I love caterpillars, butterflies, moths, and photographing nature, so my dad knew I would appreciate his find. This is the most intriguing and largest caterpillar I have ever seen. I measured it and it was over 3 1/2" long and about a 1/2" wide. After viewing some facts provided by your website, I placed the caterpillar in a clear plastic bug container/box outside with some soil and grass in the bottom, and the caterpillar instinctively made its way to the bottom of the container and made its cocoon (pupa) within a few days. It just hatched today, August 15th, and was in its cocoon (pupa) for about three weeks. I would like to thank you for your website, for it provided me with a great deal of information about the moth. I originally thought the caterpillar looked like the Pandorus Sphinx larva, but today I realized the moth looked exactly like the Achemon Sphinx. I released the moth onto the trunk of a tree in front of my house today around 5:00pm.

"I was able to take a lot of nice pictures and was so pleased to see its amazing transformation from caterpillar to moth. I wanted to send you a few of my pictures so that you may have some more to post on your website. Thank you again for your wonderful website! I look forward to hearing back from you."
