DISTRIBUTION:

Ceratomia mooseri (wingpan: males: 86mm; females: 98mm // forewing length: male: 41mm; female: 49mm ), flies in Mexico: Jalisco; at elevations of 1470-1490m.

FLIGHT TIMES:

Ceratomia mooseri adults fly in August-September. There may be other flight months.

ECLOSION:

Pupae probably wiggle to surface from subterranean chambers just prior to eclosion.

SCENTING AND MATING:

Females call in the males with a pheromone released from a gland at the tip of the abdomen. Adults, which probably fly at dusk, nectar at a variety of flowers.

EGGS, LARVAE, PUPAE:

Larvae feed on ??

The species name is honourific for Oswald Mooser, author of "L'Enumeracion de los Esf ngidos Mexicanos" parue dans les Anales de Escuela National de Ciencias Biologicas (1939 : 407{496 ).
