Lorry writes, "Thanks for the identification. All of the pictures were taken at my house in Portland, Ontario, which is in between Kingston and Ottawa. The Hummingbird Clearwing was taken on June 2, 2006, at 5:10 p.m., and the Nessus Sphinx was taken on June 5, 2006, at 11:00 am. They were both taking nectar from my flowers. I also saw one last fall but didn’t know what it was. It was only there for a few moments, and at the time I didn’t want to leave it to get my camera. My husband and I thought it was a hummingbird, but it looked like a bee. I tried to find it in my bird book but couldn’t. Now I know why. We have lived in our house for seventeen years and have never seen one until last fall. I have seen 3 in the past year. Does this mean anything?"
