DISTRIBUTION:

Xylophanes lichyi moths fly in
Bolivia (specimen type locality): Santa Cruz: Ichilo, Buena Vista and in Brazil.

Xylophanes lichyi male, All Leps Barcode of Life, on my home computer only.

"Similar to Xylophanes maculator.

"As Xylophanes maculator but dorsal lines of tegulae, thorax and abdomen considerably fainter, giving the moth a less striped appearance and making the small subdorsal spots on the posterior margins of the abdominal tergites more conspicuous.

"Forewing upperside as in Xylophanes maculator but ground colour more greenish, particularly basal to the postmedian lines; first postmedian line more basal in position, dentate over its distal half, especially between M1 and M2.

"Median band of hindwing upperside as in Xylophanes maculator but broader, with an even inner edge and lacking the pink shading.

Forewing length: Male 29-35 mm; Female32-38 mm." CATE

FLIGHT TIMES:

Xylophanes lichyi adults

ECLOSION:

Pupae probably wiggle to surface from subterranean chambers just prior to eclosion.

SCENTING AND MATING:

Females call in the males with a pheromone released from a gland at the tip of the abdomen.

EGGS, LARVAE, PUPAE:

Larvae probably feed on plants in the Rubiaceae family and Malvaceae families.

Moths emerge approximately one-two months after larvae pupate.
