Male and Female: H. kasloensis (m-Idaho) x H. c. columbia (f-Nova Scotia)

Hybrid male and female from Hyalophora columbia columbia female, Nova Scotia, x
Hyalophora kasloensis male, Idaho, courtesy of Derek Bridgehouse.

The larvae were reared on Prunus pennsylvanica (pin cherry).

It is not difficult to get the Hyalophora species to hybridize, but subsequent females tend to be barren, without ova. The males, however, are capable of fertilizing females sometimes producing interesting intergrades.
