DISTRIBUTION:
Orthogonioptilum bergeri
(wingspan: males: 55-68mm; females: larger) flies in

 northeastern Zaire
(Democratic Republic of Congo); and
the Republic of Central Africa.

Orthogonioptilum bergeri male,
All leps barcode of Life.
The forewing is very falcate (more than O. prox or
O. neoprox), and the hindwing is elongated (more than
O. ueleense). The ground colour is dark reddish-brown.
The forewing post median line is well marked and quite thick.
The transverse line is also well marked, especially on the hind wing.
The forewing antemedian line is a bit more subdued, especially near
the costa. The fw median area is dark brown in its lower reaches
and orangey-brown toward the costa and apex. There is a generous
amount of grey-violet scaling highlighting all the lines.

Orthogonioptilum bergeri male,
All leps barcode of Life.
The underside is a little redder and noticably uniform. There are two good sized "points of light"
on each wing, and on the hindwing there is a third tiny point.

This moth is very similar to Orthogonioptilum adustum. They may some
day be synonymized.
FLIGHT TIMES AND PREFERRED FOOD PLANTS:
 This moth flies
in July and possibly in other months.
Orthogonioptilum bergeri larval hosts are unknown.

It is hoped that this alphabetical listing followed by the common
name of the foodplant will prove useful. The list is not exhaustive.
Experimenting with closely related foodplants is worthwhile.

The pronunciation of scientific names is
troublesome for many. The "suggestion" at the top of the page is
 merely a suggestion.
There are many collectors from different countries whose
intonations and accents would be different.

The genus name Orthogonioptilum refers to
the nearly right angle at the anal angle of the forewing.
I suspect ??? the species name is honourific for Berger.
