DISTRIBUTION:

Protambulyx goeldii goeldii (Wing span: ), flies in Brazil, Colombia, Guyana and Bolivia: Santa Cruz (April), La Paz (750m).

In Central America Protambulyx goeldii goeldii flies in
southern Nicaragua: Zelaya, Rio San Juan; and
Costa Rica: Heredia, Lemon, San Jose; and it
probably flies in Panama.

"P. astygonus is very similar in external appearance to P. goeldii. However, the two species can easily be distinguished by the presence of a prominent dark spot at the apex of the forewing discal cell in P. goeldii that is missing in P. astygonus."

FLIGHT TIMES:

Protambulyx goeldii goeldii adults probably fly throughout the year. In Bolivia it has been recorded in April and October. Adults nectar from flowers.

ECLOSION:

Pupae probably wiggle to surface from subterranean chambers just prior to eclosion.

SCENTING AND MATING:

Females call in the males with a pheromone released from a gland at the tip of the abdomen.

EGGS, LARVAE, PUPAE:

Larvae feed on

Moths may eclose within fourteen days of pupation.
